Located at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Gary, Indiana.

Brethren, if you are looking for something fun to do while lodges are not able to meet for degree work, your local cemeteries are full of history.

Pick a cemetery close to your lodge and look for Masonic symbols on the headstones. Gather names and talk to the older Brothers in your lodge to get personal stories, use google and your lodge’s historical meeting minutes to match names from years past. You can also contact your Grand Lodge Library to see if they have a form to request the Masonic history of the men you’ll find.

It might not seem like it, but in 2020 we’re as far from 1980 as 1980 was from 1940. What we think of as “just a few years ago” is now history that tells a story about your lodge.

You’ll be surprised at what you’ll discover and very quickly you’ll have an interesting historical presentation for your lodge.

Have a great weekend, Brothers!

Labor at a safe distance from those who desire unearned wages and any who daub with mortar untempered. Sincerity and plain dealing distinguish the true Entered Apprentice, the arts and sciences the engaged Fellow Craft, and unfeigned piety the honest and worthy Master Mason. Seek those qualities out, and be cautious when you do not see them in an individual who wears our apron. Reflect further that, where silence and circumspection are not, those things that silence and circumspection are intended to preserve and guard will never be found. Though we are all imperfect ashlars, endeavor to befriend brothers who will truly meet you on the Level and who strive to make their lives actually reflect the teachings of Freemasonry. Do not become overly entangled in the machinations of those who have elected not to take the wise truths of our Art seriously. Have compassion for them, and know that ones like this have always gathered near us - for even the earliest brethren wrote admonitions regarding them, both in their literature and in the very ceremonies themselves. Wish all men well, but remember the hourglass, and focus resolutely on that which you came here to do. There is no shortage of work in this Temple. Our labor is not to be concerned with the recumbent drone, but to gather what is scattered so that the hive will have honey, and the lodge greater Light.” -Written by Brother Shawn Eyer.

He wrote many books, contributed greatly to early geographic mappings of Greek lands, and created the Sieve of Eratosthenes, which is a systematic procedure for finding prime numbers. He even worked out a calendar using the Earth's ecliptic that had 365 days and included leap years.
Sadly, later in life he contacted ophthalmia. Losing the ability to read and to observe nature plagued and depressed him, leading him to voluntarily starve himself to death. He died in 194 BC at 82 in Alexandria.

Had a great view of the Indianapolis Scottish Rite Had a great view of the Indianapolis Scottish Rite Cathedral from the seventh floor of the Indiana Freemasons Hall last week.
I’m always amazed at the artistry that went into the creation of that cathedral and buildings like it. The wisdom that contrived these grand structures is all but lost in modern architecture. The imposing strength of a building such as this coupled with its inherent beauty invokes awe when gazed upon.
We need more awe in our lives.
Last week Pentalpha Lodge No. 564 located inside I Last week Pentalpha Lodge No. 564 located inside Indiana Freemasons Hall held a candlelight Entered Apprentice degree.
The work was excellent and the atmosphere was charged but contemplative as a new Brother was welcomed into our ancient fraternity. If you ever have the chance to attend a degree that Pentalpha is performing I would wholeheartedly recommend it.

The sun streaming into the windows at Battle Ground Lodge always makes me stop and reflect for a bit on how lucky we are to wake up and see a new day. “Every morning brings new potential, but if you dwell on the misfortunes of the day before, you tend to overlook tremendous opportunities.” - Harvey Mackay
I SEE YOU'VE TRAVELED SOME Wherever you may chanc I SEE YOU'VE TRAVELED SOME

Wherever you may chance to be
Wherever you may roam,

Far away in foreign lands;
Or just at Home Sweet Home;

It always gives you pleasure,
it makes your heart strings hum

Just to hear the words of cheer,
"I see you've traveled some." When you get a brother's greeting,
And he takes you by the hand,

It thrills you with a feeling
that you cannot understand,

You feel that bond of brotherhood
that tie that's sure to come

When you hear him say in a friendly way
"I see you've traveled some." And if you are a stranger,
In strange lands all alone

If fate has left you stranded
Dead broke and far from home,

It thrills you--makes you numb,
When he says with a grip of fellowship,
"I see you've traveled some." And when your final summons comes,
To take a last long trip,

Adorned with Lambskins Apron White
and gems of fellowship

The tiler at the Golden Gate,
With square and rule and plumb

Will size up your pin and say "Walk In",
"I see you've traveled some."
